WOW!! - Just look at the size of this amazing and rare large nautilus (c ymatoceras) polished fossil chambered shell. It's absolutely gorgeous! The sheer size of the fossil, in tandem with the magnificent detail that can be seen in the polished chambers, make this a truly museum quality display piece. It lays perfectly well on its side without the need for a stand, but we will supply a brand new, suitable fossil stand absolutely free, just in case you prefer to use one. One additional attraction of this particular specimen is the presence of subtle orange 'flash' or to name it correctly, ammolite iridescence , over areas of the polished surface! If you only buy one spectacular fossil in your life for your collection, this one is hard to beat! What an investment at this price. Nautilus from the latin name "sailor" is a pelagic marine mollusc of the cephalopod family. It comprises six living species nautilus pompilius, the name chambered nautilus is also used for any of the nautilidae. Having survived relatively unchanged for millions of years, nautiluses represent the only living members of the subclass nautiloidea, and are often considered living fossils.
The key difference between ammonite and nautilus is that ammonite is a marine mollusc of subclass ammonoidea, which is extinct, while nautilus is a marine mollusc of subclass nautiloidea, which is existent species. Class cephalopoda includes exclusively marine animals with bilateral symmetry.
The nautilus and the ammonite are similar organisms. Both are aquatic molluscs with spiral shells. Ammonites, however, have been extinct since the K-T event that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago while the nautilus still roams the seas.
✔ The image shows the ACTUAL SPECIMEN you will receive unless otherwise stated.
✔ We only sell the finest minerals, crystals & fossils. Please remember this when comparing our specimens with others.
✔ Please also check the sizes of competitors' specimens. Many photograph their specimens to appear much larger than they actually are, resulting in disappointment. We usually include a 1cm cube in at least one of the photographs to give a sense of scale.
✔ All our minerals, crystals & fossils are ethically sourced and are 100% natural specimens just as they come out of the ground.
✔ We NEVER sell altered, embellished, dyed or artificially enhanced specimens, such as screaming fluorescent agates, 'day glow' dyed amethysts or 'aura' vapour coated crystals.
