Wunderschöne, klassizistische Biskuitporzellanfigur nach Étienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1791).

Biskuitporzellan, Passau, Deutschland.

Beautiful, classicistic bisque porcelain figure after Étienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1791). Biscuit porcelain, Passau, Germany.

The finely executed, graceful figure of a young woman drying herself with a cloth was modelled by the French sculptor Étienne Maurice Falconet (1716-1791).

Falconet presented his graceful bather at the Paris Salon in 1757 and struck a chord with his time. In the same year, he became artistic director of the royal porcelain manufactory in Sévres and created various versions of the motif, which was produced in small series and was extremely sought after.

His sensual, natural depiction delighted the Parisian public and due to the enormous interest, a large number of replicas were created in different materials until the 19th century.

Biscuit porcelain, between 1840 and 1890, unsigned. Very good, undamaged original condition. Passau porcelain mark (bishop's crook) and model number E 2282 on the underside.

Height of the figure 54 cm, weight 4,3 kg.

Étienne-Maurice Falconet (1716 - 1791) was a French sculptor. The highly talented boy was trained in Paris by his discoverer Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. "L'amour menaçant", the "Threatening Cupid", became Falconet's first great salon success.

He presented it in 1755 as a plaster model, later in 1757 alongside "La Baigneuse" as a marble statue, which provoked a scandal due to its lifelike nature. Both figures were to become famous throughout Europe. The plaster sketch of Cupid had already aroused the enthusiasm not only of the critics but also of Madame de Pompadour, who commissioned it for her Paris flat in 1755, on the very first day of the exhibition.

Copies were also sold to Catherine II of Russia, among others. On 5 July 1757, a few weeks after celebrating his first resounding success at the Salon de mai, Falconet took up the post of artistic director of the sculpture studio at the Sèvres porcelain manufactory.

He remained with Sèvres for 9 years and achieved international fame: in addition, he continued to create large-scale sculptures for public squares, churches and palaces.

In 1766 he followed the call to the court of Catherine II of Russia in Saint Petersburg. After his return in 1778, he became the director of the painters' and sculptors' department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.

I enjoy beautiful things and it is my greatest pleasure to find them, to lure them into their stories, to spend time with them and then set them free again. Add to that a passionate interest in exceptional and high crafted objects. You surely know the exciting feeling when you see or experience something special, when the heart bounces in excitement and the joy inside it spreads. That's what I wanted more in my life and that's how this shop came about. The foundation stone was a study of literature and art history as well as cultural communication. Curiosity, thirst for knowledge and a lot of collaboration with amazing personalities in the art and design world are how I got myself to where I am today. Through antiquities, history becomes tangible in the literal sense, one can perceive it sensually. They calmly defy the constant change of fashions and the taste of the times. They are like a bridge between past and present. For me personally they are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Some objects give up puzzles, lock themselves up; others quite frankly reveal their past. They radiate joie de vivre, astonish or enchant us; make a collector's heart beat faster or become good friends and a meaningful place in your lives. They may be bulky or controversial, but they are never boring. I believe the stories, the hands, and the tradition behind the objects are equally as important as their aesthetic qualities. Antique objects can adds so much value to your life, and I personally cannot imagine a home without it. Each piece in my shop has been thoughtfully and personally chosen. What unites them is their craftsmanship, care and attention to detail. Enjoy them.
